Tom Perriello is holding his own in the money race in the Fifth District, but the trappings of incumbency are evident in looking at his position vis-a-vis Virgil Goode.
Goode, the Republican incumbent in the Fifth, reported having $834,418 cash on hand as of June 30, according to a campaign-finance report filed with the Federal Election Commission this week.
Goode had raised $814,366 in the 2008 election cycle, which began Jan. 1, 2007, and he had spent $307,863 in the ’08 cycle as of June 30, according to his report.
The balance is accounted for in the form of transfers from previous campaign years.
Perriello, for his part, had raised $637,522 in the ’08 cycle as of June 30 and spent $195,003, leaving him a cash balance of $440,378.
