Generals get rain-shortened 4-0 win

A first-inning homer by Jacob Hoyle gave Waynesboro the early lead, and Cody Allbright threw five shutout innings in his first start of the season to lift the Generals to a rain-shortened 4-0 win over Rockbridge Wednesday night.

Allbright (2-0) scattered five hits and three walks. Waynesboro added a run in the third when Julian Ridings scored from third base on a wild pitch by Rockbridge starter Levi Mauldin (1-2), and two more in the fourth on an RBI single by Bradley Noland and a steal of home by Tyrone Smith after Noland got caught in a rundown between first and second.

Allbright then retired the side in the fifth with bad weather imminent. The game was delayed for more than an hour before it was called with a line of storms expected to bring rain and lightning much the rest of the night.

The win improves Waynesboro to 25-11 and gives the Generals a one-and-a-half-game lead in the South Division over second-place Harrisonburg.

Waynesboro travels to Rockbridge Thursday night for a doubleheader.
