Generals name field manager

Chris Graham

The Waynesboro Generals announced Thursday the signing of Andy Chalot to coach the team in 2009.
Chalot, currently the assistant baseball coach at West Virginia Tech, was the first hire by Lawrence Nesselrodt, Waynesboro’s director of baseball operations.
Prior to joining Nesselrodt at West Virginia Tech, Chalot was the pitching coach at Gannon University from 2002-2005, and head baseball coach at Alleghany High School from 2006-2008. Chalot also comes to the Generals with Valley League experience, as an assistant coach of the Covington Lumberjacks from 2005-2006, and head coach in 2007 and 2008.

He led the team to an overall 45-43 record in those two years, advancing to the finals in 2008.
“It’s exciting,” Chalot said. “This is a good opportunity. I’m honored that Lawrence entrusted me to take over the team.”
Jerry Carter, co-owner of the Generals, echoed the sentiment. “Andy is not a consolation prize,” Carter said. “I could not be more excited to have him run the baseball team. The combination of Andy and Ness on the field will match the level of passion that [co-owner] John [Leonard] and I will have off the field.”
