Generals beat Staunton, again

Waynesboro got seven solid innings from starter Adam Curtis, and the bullpen made his effort stand up to give the Generals a 4-3 win at Staunton Wednesday night.

The Generals moved back into first place by a half-game in the South Division with the win and Harrisonburg’s 4-2 loss to Covington.

Waynesboro got all its offense from the middle of the order, as Caleb Palesnsky (2-for-5) and Brandon Murray (3-for-4) each drove in a pair of runs.

Palensky’s seventh-inning double that scored Jeb Weymouth from third to give the Generals a 4-1 lead proved decisive. Staunton answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Ricky Santiago and a wild pitch by Curtis that allowed Ryan Stephens to score.

JoJo Woods pitched a scoreless eighth, and then Kyle Allen notched his first save of the season after holding down the Braves in the ninth.

The win was the fourth for Waynesboro in four games this season with rival Staunton – and the 13th in the 14 games the two teams have played in the past two seasons.

Waynesboro returns home Thursday night to face South Division rival Covington. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
