Gateway to host first 2013 Bluegrass Night

gatewayWTA’s Gateway will present its first evening in 2013 devoted exclusively to traditional bluegrass music on Saturday, Feb. 2. Back by popular demand are The SunnySide Family Band and Blue Mountain Sunrise. Performance will begin at 8 p.m. at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro.

Blue Mountain Sunrise has been playing to the enjoyment of Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel fans in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and beyond for over 30 years. The band’s current line-up includes two brothers who provide harmonious vocals. Roy Kiser (known by some as Danny) keeps time on the upright bass and Jeff Kiser holds his own with great licks and background work on the 5-string banjo. Darrell Weaver, the only original member band member, rips on the resophonic guitar. Brent Burkholder, the newest member works the guitar with good rhythm and leads. Band members have played in various Bluegrass and Gospel groups over the years and are seasoned veterans of the Bluegrass scene.

SunnySide Family Band began in September 2007, playing their first gig at Humpback Rocks Old Settlers Museum on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Their passions and dedication to the old-time mountain music is evident in the harmony of beautiful sound the trio produces. They do more than just play their acoustic instruments and sing words. They strum each note with the heart of the natives; they sing each story through the eyes of its past, and they live each moment through the spirit of the mountains.  As their fans say, “SunnySide brings the mountain sound to your ears.”

Tickets for WTA’s Bluegrass Night are $10 in advance and $12 on the night of performance.  They are available online at www.wtagateway.com or by calling 540-943-9999.  Remaining tickets will be available at the door on the night of performance.
