Just under half the gas stations reviewed by GasBuddy are under the $3 per gallon mark on Monday, with the cheapest gas online in Virginia at $2.52 a gallon.

“With the change to winter gasoline happening today at most stations across the country, the outlook is bright for the national average to continue to make a run at falling to $2.99 per gallon for the first time since 2021,” said Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

The average in Virginia on Monday is $3.03 a gallon, down 8.3 cents over the past week, 26.1 cents over the past month, and 55.6 cents from where the average was this time last year.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 6.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.15 per gallon today.

The national average price of diesel has declined 3.4 cents in the last week and stands at $3.57 per gallon, the lowest level since January 2022, more than 900 days ago.
