VMI Notes

Jacob Jaye has reached base safely in 20 straight games and has hit safely in 13 straight. During the on-base streak, Jaye is hitting .319 and has drawn 17 walks against just 15 strikeouts. His on-base percentage is a team-high .453 during this run. Jaye is one game away from tying the Keydets’ longest on-base streak over the past three seasons, a 21-game run by Matt Winn last season.

Matt Pita enters the Radford game with 108 total bases on the year, 10 shy of tying for ninth on the all-time VMI record listing. Four players have hit for 118 total bases in a season, and it was last accomplished in 2013 by Rob Dickinson. The all-time VMI record (and the VMI record for a freshman) was set in 2010 by Cory Spangenberg.

Center fielder Will Malbon has been plunked by 12 pitches so far this season. The next time he is hit by a pitch, he will tie for 10th on VMI’s single-season listing with Andy Barden (2003) and Kelly Sweppenhiser (2005), who were each hit 13 times in a season.

Next Time Out

Following this contest, VMI will return to action Friday when the Keydets open a series against Furman. VMI’s final home series of the year will begin at 4 p.m.
