Cannabis has become a buzzword over the past few years, thanks to the non-stop increase in proponents that push for its legalization. It’s important to distinguish cannabidiol (CBD) from tetrahydrocannbinol (THC). The former refers to the non-psychoactive ingredient found in the cannabis plant, while the former is associated with the usual “high” that users experience after using it. Hemp is also derived from the cannabis plant, but it contains nearly 100% CBD. This is one of the biggest reasons why hemp has been legalized in the US in late December 2018.

The 2018 Farm Bill includes a provision that legalizes hemp. As long as hemp doesn’t contain more than 0.3% THC, it is considered legal. The FDA and DEA still categorize CBD as illegal, however, but companies that sell CBD products can obtain approval from the aid agencies. The DEA isn’t as strict with CBD as it is with marijuana, prompting the industry to earn a collective revenue of $350 million in 2018. Now that hemp is legal, this figure is expected to surpass $1 billion in 2020.

Many scientists support the claim that CBD offers a variety of health benefits. Researchers have found that CBD can soothe anxiety, insomnia, pain, and stress. But more studies must be conducted to come up with conclusive evidence to finally put the debate to an end. Other than the medical benefits associated with the use of CBD, the recent hemp legalization also means a lot for the agriculture industry.

In the US, farm income has been on a decline. The 2018 Farm Bill is seen as an opportunity for growers to cultivate a friendly crop, one with immense earning potential. Studies show that hemp prevents soil erosion and detoxifies it at the same time. It doesn’t require a lot of water to grow. Growers can also produce high-quality hemp without the use of pesticides, making it more environmentally friendly compared to traditional crops.

Now, growing hemp wouldn’t just be for fiber. Cultivators can produce high CBD hemp products without worrying about the law. Hemp farms, however, require massive amounts of acreage when pass producing hemp. Seed stock alone can be expensive. Thankfully, indoor cultivation allows for higher-quality production and harvest of hemp with the use of hemp greenhouses.

Fullbloom is a trusted provider of hemp and CBD greenhouses with auto blackout systems. With full environmental controls, growers have an opportunity to reduce costs while maintaining the quality of their products regardless of the outside conditions. Propagating, growing seed, and getting starts planted are all made possible by indoor cultivation.

Hemp greenhouses also make it easy for growers to test different phenotypes and find the right CBD ratio, ensuring that the THC content doesn’t go beyond the limit imposed by the new law. They also allow early harvest, which means growers can sell their products before other farmers flood the market with their own.

The legalization of hemp presents a winning scenario for all parties involved—from CBD growers to end-consumers. And with light deprivation greenhouses from reputable providers like Fullbloom, growers can get started with indoor cultivation that satisfies all of their hemp growing needs.
