Free Clinic plans fundraiser

The Augusta Regional Free Clinic is putting the finishing touches on its 12th annual fundraising golf tournament scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Waynesboro Country Club.

The tournament is the Free Clinic’s most important fundraising event of the year. It delivers crucial funds required to sustain the organization in its mission to provide healthcare services to members of the local community in need.

The weak economy has dealt ARFC a double blow. Donations to the Clinic have diminished, while the number of unemployed and underemployed residents receiving its services has tripled. According to the Virginia Atlas of Healthy Communities, 15,000 Augusta County residents have no healthcare insurance, and that number continues to rise. A successful tournament will help close ARFC’s funding gap and enable the Clinic to respond to the increased need for its services.

“At this time, it is vital that our community bands together to ensure all individuals and families have access to quality, compassionate healthcare,” said Margaret Hersh, executive director of the Augusta Regional Free Clinic. “Our golf tournament is a fun way to support the Clinic and we are extremely grateful to our loyal sponsors and golfers who are essential to making this fundraising event a success.”

To sign up to golf or sponsor the tournament, contact Margaret Hersh at 540.332.5611 or [email protected].

Tee time is 1 p.m., and the awards dinner is at 5:30 p.m.
