Fishburne’s Lamell Washington signs with Maryland-Baltimore County

Maryland-Baltimore County is getting what Fishburne Military School postgrad coach Ed Huckaby thinks is a major-conference talent in Lamell Washington (6’7”, 215, Frederick, Md.).

“He will probably be, as a freshman, one of the 10 best players in that league. There’s no question in my mind. Freshmen like that don’t walk into the America East every day,” Huckaby said of Washington, who he calls his “best all-around player.”

That’s saying a lot right there, with recruits on the team like Jabari Craig (Southern Cal), Tre’ Harris (Kansas State) and Jordan Tyson (St. Bonaventure).

Washington cited reasons not entirely involving basketball for his decision to sign his National Letter of Intent with UMBC on Wednesday.

“I took in, in all my visits, what they had to offer outside of basketball. Basketball is not the strong suit for anyone. They had a lot more to offer academically, and I felt comfortable there,” Washington said.
