fms-logoFredrick Edmond got his points. Fishburne Military School got the W.

“We made him work. That’s what you have to do in this game. You have to make people work for what they get,” said FMS coach Ed Huckaby after his team’s 108-77 win over Kingdom Prep on Friday.

Edmond poured in 35 points after scoring 47 in a 112-110 upset of the Caissons in December in Waynesboro, but it wasn’t an easy 35 at all this time.

Kuran Iverson (Memphis) and Maurice Simon had the duty of guarding Edmond. The 6’10” Iverson and 6’6″ Simon focused on denying the ball to the 6’4″ Edmond, who was also the subject of attention from other Caissons when he did actually get the rock in his hands.

Iverson also matched Edmond offensively, scoring 33 for Fishburne (23-5). Zach Lewis (Canisius) chipped in 25 for FMS, which plays its final home game of the year on Sunday against Catonsville (Md.) Community College.

“When we play with the kind of focus that you saw tonight, we’re one of the best teams in the country,” said Lewis, whose three from the wing at the 9:17 mark of the first half ignited an 11-0 Caisson run that extended the Fishburne lead to 35-17.

It was 56-39 at the half before Zak Kirkbride went bonkers from three-point range, nailing trifectas on back-to-back-to-back possessions to extend the lead to 70-45 at the 16:29 mark.

Kingdom Prep did cut the lead to 15 at one point down the stretch, but a 13-2 Fishburne run punctuated by an Iverson slam  pushed the lead back out to 27 at 92-65 with 6:07 to go and got the bus warming up.
