It wasn’t that long ago that Paul C. Balassa was a young man in need of a push in the right direction. Now the regulatory counsel at the Food and Drug Administration, Balassa was a struggling student when he first showed up at Fishburne Military School in the early 1990s.
“There’s nothing like having control of your own affairs,” said Balassa, FMS ’94, who offered the keynote address at Wednesday’s Annual Blessing of the Colors ceremony at FMS. “You have a great deal of autonomy and a number of opportunities that other young men your age don’t have. I encourage you to value and maximize that.”
Rev. Dr. Edgar Holowell, FMS ’57, took care of the blessing of the colors.
“I bless both the Fishburne cadet colors. This is what it really stands for at the local level with you. Each day when you see this, be reminded that you will be honorable men, that you will take care of each other, and that God will sustain you to leave no cadet behind,” Holowell said.
