February Radio Hour Features Samuel Johnson and Friends

river-city-radio-hourThe River City Radio Hour moves into new territory in February.  Samuel Johnson returns, Cathy LaFon joins the Boogie Kings, Manfred Martin shares his Vegas connections, Angel Love considers her options and Marsha Howard deals some new jokes. All of them will be at the Friday, February 15th Radio Hour for the two performances at 6:30 and 8 pm at WTA’s Gateway, 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro.  It is a Radio Hour not to be missed.

“I have been trying since September to get on Samuel Johnson’s schedule.  I finally made it!” said Clair Myers,  Radio Hour’s producer.  “Samuel joined our 2011 Radio Hour Christmas performances and wowed the audiences with his voice and guitar playing.”   Often compared to such masters as Cat Stevens, John Denver, and Ray LaMontagne; Johnson is quickly becoming a legend in the world of acoustic folk music, especially in Europe.  The German newspaper The Free Press-Berlin wrote,”His clear sound and insightful lyrics remind us of the good times and help with the bad times.”  Born in the Appalachian Mountains, Samuel was raised singing and playing the piano in church choirs as well as playing guitar and banjo in the neighborhood bluegrass band. With the desire to explore new musical possibilities, Samuel pursued an education in classical voice. His education led him to work with such musical giants as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Renee Fleming as well as regular engagement in European opera houses.   This month he will provide Radio Hour audiences with a belated Valentine’s treat.

Richard Adams managed to get Cathy LaFon to join the Boogie Kings when William Hayes had to take an unexpected trip to Ohio.  Cathy has graced the Radio Hour in the past with her keyboard and vocal talents.  Now she will sit in with the Boogie Kings and be “one of the boys”.

Chapter Six of the  Radio Hour serial, A. Love Diary by Bob Crawford, brings a new dilemma to Angel’s life.  A hurried call from DC brings tragic news.  Should Angel follow her grandmother’s injunction and return to her career in the Capital or bend to her mother’s plan, stay in Timberlake and learn a trade.  Those questions will be resolved in the February installment.

Interrupting the Radio Hour this month will be Dustin Roadcap as Manfred Martin (Mani to his show biz colleagues).  He comes fresh from hisVegas tour with a guest star in tow.

Marsha Howard has recovered from the bout of the flu that forced her to relinquish her role as the Radio Hour’s top comic.  She has used her time away to put together a new set that will provoke laughter from the most stolid of listeners.

Advance tickets for the River City Radio Hour are $10 and are available online (www.wtagateway.com) or by calling the box office (540-943-9999).  Remaining tickets will be available on the evening of the performances for $12.
