Fauquier County | Truck driver charged with DWI in fatal crash on Route 17

A motorcyclist is dead after a crash Friday on Route 17 in Fauquier County.

Justin P. Murphy, 42, of Fredericksburg, died at the scene. Murphy was wearing a helmet.

According to Virginia State Police, the fatal two-vehicle crash occurred at 9:54 p.m.. when Murphy’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound, about a half-mile south of Spring Mill Road. The motorcycle ran into the back of a Chevrolet Silverado truck that was stopped in the travel lane with its lights off.

The driver of Silverado, Arturo Ayala Martinez, 37, of Catlett, was not injured.

Martinez has been charged with driving while intoxicated – manslaughter.

The crash remains under investigation.
