The driver of a McLaren 720S involved in a late-night crash on Interstate 495 in Alexandria Sunday night has been charged with reckless driving, according to Virginia State Police.

George W. Shuey IV, 36, of Burke, suffered serious injuries after his vehicle plunged over a guardrail, landing on South Van Dorn Street below, and ejecting both occupants of the sports car.

Shuey and his passenger, Eren Demir, 23, were not wearing seatbelts. Virginia State Police troopers pulled Demir from the burning vehicle following the crash.

Additional charges are pending.

Before the fiery crash below I-495, Shuey was one of multiple drivers reportedly driving recklessly in the area of Braddock Road just before 11 p.m.

Shuey allegedly sideswiped a Honda Pilot, causing it to overturn multiple times. The driver of the Pilot, Rosa M. Rivera Orellana, 37, of Fairfax, also suffered serious injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt, according to police.
