Eastbound lane on Dominion Drive closed at Route 29 during utility work

route 29Utility work at the intersection of Dominion Drive and Route 29 (Seminole Trail) in Albemarle County requires that the eastbound lane and right turn movement from Dominion Drive onto Route 29 south be closed to traffic for the next three weeks.

CenturyLink is working on underground utility cables in that area using a manhole in the middle of Dominion Drive to gain access to the cables. The barricades that are necessary to protect the workers interfere with sight distances for drivers approaching the intersection of Dominion Drive to turn right onto Route 29 southbound.

The Virginia Department of Transportation and CenturyLink have determined that creates an unsafe condition for drivers due to the lack of adequate sight distance and the lane has been closed at the work zone.

A signed detour will direct traffic west on Dominion Drive to a left turn onto Commonwealth Drive. From there drivers should turn left again onto Greenbrier Drive to Route 29.
