East Rockingham Senior Center Sampled Heart Healthy Lasagna

ersc-heart healthChrissie Braswell, Admissions Coordinator with Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation, offered a very captivating program on “Maintaining Heart Health” for 16 East Rockingham Senior Center members and five volunteers on August 7. Ms. Braswell intrigued viewers as she layered the ingredients for a ‘heart healthy lasagna’ recipe. Fortunately, she had prepared one in advance, so members were able to sample that along with garlic butter on pita bread!

She shared with them the ways to prevent heart disease: exercise, don’t smoke, eat healthy, maintain a healthy weight, and visit the doctor regularly. She reminded them of the worst foods one can eat: hotdogs, fast food, french fries (fried version), steak/red meat, and donuts. Foods that are recommended: oatmeal, fish, avocados, nuts (handful a day), olive oil, berries, and beans.

Members are looking forward to her next visit in September.
