vmi_logo2VMI basketball coach Duggar Baucom has been named head basketball coach at The Citadel. School officials made the announcement in a news release in Charleston, South Carolina Monday afternoon.

Baucom leaves VMI as the Institute’s leader in basketball wins guiding the Keydets to a 151-159 mark in 10 seasons which ranked as the third longest coaching tenure in program history. Baucom is one of two VMI head basketball coaches to post two 20+ win seasons and led the Keydets to the Big South Tournament Finals three times. In 2013-14, VMI advanced to the semifinals in the CollegeInsider.com tournament which was the first postseason appearance in 37 years.

“VMI, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and our basketball family wish Coach Baucom only the very best for his new opportunity at The Citadel,” said VMI Athletics Director Dr. Dave Diles. “We are appreciative of his service and contributions to the Institute and the stewardship of our basketball program.”

“A national search for the next head basketball coach at the Virginia Military Institute is already underway,” said Diles. “This will be a comprehensive and focused assessment of talented coaches designed to determine the best leadership for our program’s future.  No further comments will be made connected to this process until we have identified our next head coach.”
