Drunk driving crash in Waynesboro sends two to Augusta Health

Higginbotham Zachary RayThe Waynesboro Police Department charged a city man with numerous traffic offenses after he caused a two-vehicle drunk driving accident Friday night that sent him and the other driver to the hospital.

Zachary Ray Higginbotham, 27 years old, faces charges for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol; Refusal of a Breath or Blood Test; and Failure to Yield the Right of Way.  Friday at approximately 11:50 PM, officers responded with the Waynesboro Fire Department and Waynesboro First Aid Crew to the scene of a two-vehicle accident Bridge Avenue and Highland Avenue.

In the course of the investigation, officers determined that Higginbotham was traveling on Highland Avenue in a 2000 Cadillac when he disregarded the stop sign and collided with a 2003 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 21 year old Waynesboro woman.  Higginbotham displayed signs of intoxication.

The WFAC transported Higginbotham and the other driver to the Augusta Health Emergency Department.  The victim was treated and released.  Higginbotham was transported to UVA Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles sustained major damage.
