Driver charged in Augusta County school bus accident

augusta countyAt 3:31 p.m., Wednesday (Feb. 10), Virginia State Police Trooper G.W. Clifton responded to a single-vehicle crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred on Route 608 approximately two miles north of Route 250.

An Augusta County school bus was traveling north on Route 608 when it ran off the right side of the road. The bus then crossed back over the road and ended up striking an embankment, running off the left side of the road, continuing down a ravine and striking head-on a tree.

The driver, Roxanne M. Rohrbaugh, 42, of Crimora, Va., and 14 students were transported to Augusta Health for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Rohrbaugh was wearing a seat belt. She was charged with failure to maintain control of the vehicle.

There were a total of 34 middle and high school students plus the driver on the bus at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Route 608 was re-opened by 6 p.m.
