Downtown Harrisonburg celebrates August Craft Beer Month

dt-harrisonbugIn August, breweries and restaurants in Downtown Harrisonburg are honoring Virginia’s craft beer month with special events and promotions. This month long celebration includes new beer releases from Brothers Craft Brewing and Three Notch’d Brewing Co., tastings at Friendly City Food Co‐op and Midtowne Bottle Shop, steal‐a‐pint nights, tap takeovers, and numerous other events and deals at downtown locations.

“Craft beer month is also the perfect time for craft beer lovers to try Foxy Roxy,” says Kim Kirk, Director of Promotions at Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance (HDR). “Foxy Roxy is a hoppy red wheat beer. It’s HDR’s second beer release in collaboration with Pale Fire Brewing Company, Brothers Craft Brewing, and Virginia Eagle Distributing.” The first collaboration was known as Rocktown Rye. It came on the heels of downtown being named “Best Beer Town” by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine in 2013. These collaborations were created to celebrate downtown’s burgeoning beer scene while also giving craft beer lovers a chance to support downtown’s revitalization efforts. One dollar from every pint sold is donated to Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance.

“Harrisonburg’s growing craft beer industry has provided opportunities for local businesses and restaurants to partner by creating packages, unique itineraries, food pairing and events that stimulate our local economy,” says Brenda Black, Director of Tourism and Visitor Services.
