Update: Saturday, 8:32 p.m. OK, so, the Mark Sanchez stabbing story has taken a weird turn – Indianapolis Police are now saying they’ve charged the Fox Sports NFL analyst with three misdemeanors, and that he was the aggressor in the incident, which involved a 69-year-old food-delivery driver.
Sanchez was arrested at the hospital, according to a press release from the Indianapolis Metro Police Department, and charged on counts for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication.
The other individual involved in the incident claims to have been acting in self-defense, according to a report from an Indianapolis TV station.
The second individual reportedly suffered “significant injuries” after being confronted by Sanchez near a pub in downtown Indianapolis around 12:30 a.m. ET Saturday.
From what is being reported, the individual – as mentioned above, a food-delivery driver – was making a delivery when Sanchez told him to leave, then began throwing punches at him.
The man used pepper spray in his defense, and when Sanchez continued throwing punches, the man stabbed Sanchez.
For his trouble, Sanchez was transported to the hospital and was originally reported to be in critical condition, though he was in stable condition at last report.
First report: Saturday, 2:19 p.m. Mark Sanchez, the former Southern Cal QB and NFL first-round pick, is in stable condition after being stabbed in Indianapolis early Saturday morning.
Sanchez is in Indy because he was scheduled to be part of the broadcast team for Fox Sports for Sunday’s Indianapolis Colts-Las Vegas Raiders game.
Sanchez has been working with Fox Sports since 2019 – doing college games for two years, then switching to the NFL in 2021.
TMZ broke the story earlier today, and had it that Sanchez, 38, was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Fox Sports updated his condition to stable in a tweet that went out at 1:50 p.m. ET.
Sanchez, per the TMZ report, was one of two people injured in the stabbing incident.
