Democrat Ben Cullop critical of Garrett on taxes

AFP

ben cullopFifth District Democrat Ben Cullop is blasting Republican Congressman Tom Garrett for his support of the GOP tax boondoggle.

“Tom Garrett and Washington Republicans just voted to give a tax break to those at the very top and big corporations, throw healthcare markets into chaos, explode the deficit and kill jobs,” said Cullop, a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination in the Fifth District. “They did all of this while raising taxes on too many middle class families and hanging small businesses out to dry. Tom Garrett has gone full-Washington to help his corporate special interest donors and slam the folks that need help.”

The bill expected to be passed today by the House and later the Senate will result in tax increases for the middle class, the effective gutting of the Affordable Care Act and incentives to American companies to move more profits offshore.

“We need real tax reform that helps the middle class and promotes small businesses first,” Cullop said. “In Congress, I’ll fight for a tax code that gives Virginia’s families and entrepreneurs the support they need to continue to build our community and economy.”

Making the case for universal health care: The message is the message

Republicans use framing to deride universal health care when they use the terms “free health care” and “socialized medicine.” UHC is neither free nor socialized medicine, but the terms stick.
