dickie bellDelegate Dickie Bell, R-Staunton, announced Thursday that he has been chosen by the Speaker of the House of Delegates to represent the Commonwealth at the 64th Annual Southern Regional Education Board’s Annual Legislative Work Conference. The conference will take place in Napels, Florida from June 27 through June 29.

The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works with 16 member states to improve public pre-K-12 and higher education.

At this conference legislators from the member states gather to discuss education policy matters. Work sessions are specifically geared toward topics that are expected to be on many 2016 Legislative Agendas. These topics include educator effectiveness, college and career readiness, early childhood education, and college affordability.

Delegate Bell represented the Commonwealth at the SREB Legislative Work Conference in 2010, and again in 2013.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to once again attend the SREB legislative work conference. The topics discussed at this conference will very likely be among the topics that will be before the Education Committee when the General Assembly convenes in 2016” said Delegate Bell. “I was privileged to attend this conference in 2010 and 2013, and the information shared at these conferences was extremely beneficial to me in my role as a member of the Education committee and Chairman of the Elementary and Secondary Education Subcommittee. I look forward to attending again this year, and gaining more tools to help us continue the fight for education reform.”

Elected to the House of Delegates in 2009, Delegate Bell represents the 20th District, which includes Highland County, portions of Augusta and Nelson Counties, and the Cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. He is currently serving in his third term.
