Dagger? #22 FSU stuns UVa. in final second

Ian Miller’s fifth three-pointer of the game broke a tie and pushed #22 Florida State to an improbable 63-60 win at Virginia Thursday night.

The loss was the second in a row at home and the fourth in seven games overall for UVa., which has gone from NCAA Tournament rock to the bubble with the late-season skid.

The ‘Hoos need a win on Sunday at Maryland in their regular-season finale and likely at least one win in next week’s ACC Tournament to finalize their NCAA resume.

They had this one seemingly on lockdown after a pair of Mike Scott free throws pushed the Virginia lead to 11 at 58-47 with 4:33 to go. A

Deividas Dulkys trey with 1:54 to go tied the game at 60, and Virginia misfired on its next possession, first on a Scott jumper at the 1:11 mark, then after the Cavs snared the rebound and reset, they were not able to get a shot off and turned the ball back over to the Seminoles with 35.3 seconds left.

Florida State held for the last shot, and Miller drove from the top of the circle to a spot right in front of the FSU bench and drained a contested three with 0.8 seconds left.

Sammy Zeglinski was able to get a shot to the backboard from 60 feet at the buzzer, but came up empty.

The late meltdown spoiled a stellar final game at John Paul Jones Arena for Scott, a senior who scored an ACC career-high 28 points.
