Culpeper District Traffic Alerts for Oct. 17-21

vdot-logoThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

Rio Road grade-separated intersection – The intersection is open to traffic. Motorists should follow overhead and ground-mounted signs to guide them through the project area. Sunday through Friday the following overnight lane closures will be in effect.

On Route 29 north and south of the Rio Road intersection:

  • Between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday, there will be at least one lane open both northbound and southbound
  • All business entrances will remain open during business hours
  • Turning movements at the Rio Road signal, including left turns and U-turns, may be restricted between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

On Rio Road east and west of Route 29:

  • Between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., the crossover, U-turn and left-turn movements from Rio Road onto Route 29 and from Route 29 onto Rio Road may be restricted
  • All business entrances will remain open during business hours

During the overnight closures additional detour signs, cones and other traffic controls will direct motorists through the work zone. The speed limit remains 35 mph at all times. The nighttime work will continue for the next several months.

Route 29 widening – Construction continues along the roadway shoulders between Route 643 (Polo Grounds Road) and Route 1719 (Towncenter Drive). Travel lanes are narrowed and shoulders are closed within the work zone and the speed limit is reduced to 40 mph. Expect intermittent single lane closures Monday through Friday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Motorists should remain alert and use caution through the work zone.

Berkmar Drive Extended – Bridge construction may require brief, intermittent closures of Rio Mills Road between Route 29 and Millers Cottage Lane while materials are delivered. On Towncenter Drive in the vicinity of the roundabout, motorists should be alert for dump trucks and other equipment entering and exiting the roadway.

Hillsdale Drive Extended – Obey traffic controls and expect minor delays on Hillsdale Drive, Hydraulic Road, India Road, Zan Road, Greenbrier Drive, Pepsi Place and Seminole Court. For project updates, visit http://hillsdaledrive.org.

 

Albemarle County

(NEW) Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Drainage pipe installations at Route 729 (Milton Road/ Buck Island Road).Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon, traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Shoulder closures in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion in October.

(UPDATE) Route 631 (Old Lynchburg Road) – Milling, paving and line painting from Route 706 (Dudley Mountain Road) to Route 1870 (Ambrose Commons Drive). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck.

(UPDATE) Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) – Pavement marking from Route 664 (Frays Mountain Road) to Route 641 (Frays Mills Road). Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck.

Route 782 (Stribling Avenue Extended) – Construction company performing electrical duct bank work. Motorists should obey traffic controls.

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation, utility relocation and roadway construction will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Monday through Friday, stay alert for intermittent lane closures from 0.9 mile west of Route 663 (Stevensburg Rd.) to Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road). Traffic will be controlled by flagging. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road).Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur on Route 29 and Route 666. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 and to 50 mph on Route 29 through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

Route 29 (James Monroe Highway) – Constructing restricted crossing U-turn intersection at Route 718 (Mountain Run Lake Road). The median crossover is closed at Route 718, restricting all left-turn movements at the intersection. Motorists detoured via Route 1250 (Granite Boulevard). Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., intermittent single lane closures will be in place in both directions between Route 29 Business and Route 1250 (Park Ridge Drive). Motorists should use caution traveling through the work zone and obey traffic controls. Anticipated completion January 2017.

(NEW) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Bridge inspection over Rappahannock River. Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

Route 229 (North Main Street) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., occasional lane closures with flagging will occur through the work zone. Stay alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) – Roadway widening in association with the Route 784 (Western Outer Loop/Ira Hoffman Lane) Project. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., occasional lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 641 (Gibson Mill Road) to Route 763 (Saint Jameson Road).

(NEW) Route 640 (Monumental Mills Road) – Bridge inspection over Hazel River near Route 628 (Butler Store Road). Mondayand Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Various routes – Roadway resurfacing at the locations listed below. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

  • Route 714 (Dunkard Church Road) from 0.2 mile east of Route 713 to Route 729.
  • Route 732 (Halls Road) from the dead end to Route 610.
  • Route 1011 (Bunker Ridge Drive) from Route 1012 to Route 229.
  • Route 1012 (Lindann Lane)
  • Route 1087 (Shadow Springs Court) from the cul de sac to Route 621.
  • Route 1090 (Burwell Court) from the cul de sac to Route 732.
  • Route 1091 (Krom Court) from the cul de sac to Route 1090.
  • Route 1106 (Stallion Road) from Route 692 to Route 1107.
  • Route 1107 (Equestrian Lane) from Route 1106 to Route 1108.
  • Route 1108 (Martingale Court) from the cul de sac to Route 1107.
  • Route 1116 (Brandy Fizz Court) from Route 1106 to the cul de sac.

 

Fauquier County

(NEW) Route 28 (Catlett Road) – Shoulder repairs from Route 616 (Casanova Road) to Route 806 (Elk Run Road). Mondaythrough Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., expect intermittent northbound lane closures controlled by flagging.

Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) – Rehabilitating bridge over Broad Run. Occasional lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution traveling through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 616 (Bristerburg Road) – Drainage pipe installation from Route 614 (Cropp Road) to Route 610 (Aquia Road).Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 639 (Cromwell Road) – Brush removal from Route 616 (Bristerburg Road) to Route 612 (Brent Town Road).Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

(UPDATE) Route 646 (Blackwelltown Road) – Pavement patching from Route 602 (Rogues Road) to Route 648 (Ebenezer Church Road). Monday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 684 (Lees Ridge Road) – Drainage pipe installation between Route 744 (Lovers Lane) and Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway). Monday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

(UPDATE) Various routes – Roadway resurfacing at the locations listed below. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

  • Route 607 (Carriage Ford Road) from Route 616 to one mile north.
  • Route 607 (Carriage Ford Road) from 0.6 mile west of Route 811 to Route 616.
  • Route 623 (Rokeby Road) from Route 710 to Route 50.
  • Route 631 (Royalls Mill Road) from Route 615 to dead end.
  • Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) from Route 711 to 3.1 mile south.
  • Route 721 (Free State Road) from Route 724 to Route 647.
  • Route 721 (Free State Road) from Route 738 to Route 724.

 

Fluvanna County

Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of roundabout at Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., motorists can expect intermittent lane closures controlled by flagging. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(NEW) Route 615 (Carysbrook Road)  – Bridge inspection over Rivanna River. Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

 

Greene County

(NEW) Route 33 Business (Spotswood Trail) – Crosswalk cleaning in Stanardsville. Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., expect alternating lane closures controlled by flagging.

 

Louisa County

Route 33 (Jefferson Highway) – Utility company performing communications cable work from Route 767 (School Bus Road) to the Hanover County line. Shoulder closures and intermittent lane closures with flagging. Use caution when traveling near the work zone.

Route 609 (Buckner Road) – Rehabilitating bridge over Long Creek. Route 609 closed to through traffic. Southbound motorists will be detoured west on Route 612 (Halls Store Road) to Route 33 (Jefferson Highway), and then east on Route 648 (Jouett School Road), which carries traffic back to Route 609. Northbound traffic will reverse the detour. Anticipated completion Nov.18.

(NEW) Route 622 (Moody Town Road) – Bridge inspection between Route 652 (Kentucky Springs Road) and Route 1271 (Point Drive). Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

Route 681 (Woodley Lane) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday during daytime hours, expect intermittent lane closures. Obey traffic controls.

 

Madison County

Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road) – Rehabilitating the bridge over the Conway River.  A temporary traffic signal is in place to control two-way traffic through the work zone. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., expect lane closures in both directions between the Greene County line and Route 666 (Pea Ridge Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls, use caution traveling through the work zone and expect minor delays. Anticipated completion November 2017.

 

Orange County

(UPDATE) Various Routes – Sidewalk and ramp work at the locations listed below in the Town of Gordonsville. Monday through Friday during daytime hours, expect intermittent lane closures controlled by flagging.

  • High Street from Route 1012 (Grove Avenue) to Route 1004 (East Baker Street).
  • Route 1004 (East Baker Street) from Wright Street to Pendleton Street.
  • Route 231 (Gordon Avenue) from Route 1000 (Church Street) to Route 1021 (Faulconer Street).

 

Rappahannock County

(NEW) Route 647 (Crest Hill Road) – Bridge inspection between Route 652 (Kentucky Springs Road) and Route 1271 (Point Drive). Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Various routes – Roadway resurfacing at the locations listed below. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

  • Route 608 (Ashby Road) from Route 600 to Route 231.
  • Route 616 (Castleton View Road) from Route 626 to end of pavement.
  • Route 616 (Castleton View Road) from end of pavement to Route 617.
  • Route 621 (Hunter Road) from Route 231 to Route 522.
  • Route 636 (Schoolhouse Road) from Route 9917 to Route 211.
