Cross country: UVA hosts Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational Friday

virginiaThe nationally-ranked UVA men’s and women’s cross country teams host the annual Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational Friday morning (Sept. 23) at Panorama Farms in Earlysville.

The women’s 5,000-meter race is set to begin at 10 a.m., with the men’s 8K contest to follow at 10:30 a.m. Following the conclusion of the men’s race, the UVA women will be honored and receive their championship rings for winning the 2015 ACC title. The Hound Dog Hill Bluegrass Band will be performing throughout the meet, and Cavman and the Cavalier Spirit Squad will be in attendance tossing t-shirts to fans in attendance. Admission to the meet is free.

The UVA men are ranked No. 11 in the latest USTFCCCA national rankings and No. 12 in the Saucony/FloTrack National 50 poll, while the Cavalier women are No. 14 in the USTFCCCA rankings and No. 26 in the Saucony/FloTrack poll.

The Cavalier men will be facing off with some top competition, including No. 1 and defending NCAA and ACC champion Syracuse, No. 4 Stanford, No. 12 BYU. Ranked teams that Virginia’s women will be running against include No. 16 Syracuse and No. 19 BYU.

This is the last regular season home meet for the Cavaliers. UVA will host the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships Nov. 11 at Panorama Farms.

Next up, the UVA men will compete at the Penn State National Open on Oct. 14 in State College, Pa., while the Cavalier women will race at the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 15 in Terre Haute, Ind.
