‘Conjuring the Store’ at WTA’s Gateway

The Central Virginia Blues Society in partnership with WTA’s Gateway join forces to present the “Conjuring the Store,” a Blues Showcase at Mojo Saturday Night on Saturday, March 17.

The Showcase will include Bluzonia , special guests Willie D-E and The Chris Young Group. Also on tap are some Very Special Surprise Guests!  Admission is Pay What You Will.  The performance begins at 8:00 pm.  Doors open at 7:30 pm at 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro.

‘Conjuring of the Store’ Showcase aims to channel the energy from the old Batesville Store CVBS Blues jams.  According to the host of Mojo Saturday Night, Kevin Chisnell, “If you ever went [to Batesville Store], you know what I mean!”  Some of the areas best Blues artists will gather in the best acoustic space in the area and as Cid said at the Batesville Store, “They huff and they puff and they blow the house down.”

Featured at the Showcase is Bluzonia, a quartet (bass, drums, harmonica, and guitar/vocals) playing old-time countrified blues and swing.  The group has a unique take on American roots music, combining elements of Chicago and Delta blues, smokey jazz standards, revved-up swing, and Doug Hedstrom’s one-of-a-kind originals.

Also in the Showcase is Willie DE, a 19-year old musician from Batesville, Virginia, who blends folk, rock, jazz and blues into his original material. His lyrics show influences of Dylan and melodies traces of Van Morrison. Willie’s intricate guitar work and deep voice set the spirit mind of his audiences in perpetual motion. Willie has shard the stage with North Mississippi All-stars, William Walter and Co., Trees on Fire, XPS, and many more.

Professah Blues, on WMRA’s Blues Valley, called Willie DE “a young Virginia blues guitarist who demonstrates skills and abilities expected of more mature musicians. His mastery of the acoustic guitar reflects both finesse and sensitivity. In addition, [he] clearly demonstrates his ability as a song writer. His song, Hard Times a Rolling, conjures the laments of the bluesman and delivers it with a sophisticated guitar accompaniment. For such a young musician, he is off to a great start, and I expect him, as he matures, to be one to watch out for.”

Chris Young is a guitar playing/singer/songwriting blues Entertainer! Chris has been pleasing audiences throughout the area in different forms of solo/duo – acoustic electric… It’s Chris’ second time at The Gateway. This time, a fine group of blues musicians will join him on our stage.

Don’t miss “Conjuring the Store” at the Gateway on Saturday March 17. Doors open at 7:30 and the show begins at 8 pm. This time and this time only… Pay What You Will!
