More on CM Punk: So he hasn’t been released by WWE?

Chris Graham

cmpunkThe saga of CM Punk and his WWE status is maybe taking another turn with a report from Dave Meltzer at the Wrestling Observer that WWE is denying an earlier report from PWInsider that Punk was quietly released from the remainder of his WWE contract last week.

According to Meltzer, two WWE officials confirmed that Punk is still under contract to WWE.

PWInsider reported earlier in the day that the word at WWE house shows this past weekend was that Punk had been released from the remainder of his contract on Friday.

Punk had said in interviews last month that his contract was set to expire in July, and he had been indicating to people close to him, according to several published reports, that he did not plan to re-sign with WWE when the contract expired.

WWE CEO Vince McMahon has reportedly been keen on trying to get Punk to return to WWE in time to be part of the lineup for WrestleMania 30. Creative had been working on an angle that would put Punk in a program with Triple H that would actually work well with his recent public departure from the company.
