Clinton campaign critical of Sanders Medicare-for-all plan

hillary clintonThe Hillary Clinton campaign is criticizing Bernie Sanders’ Medicare-for-all-plan for failing to prioritize military veterans.

“Beyond the questionable math, it’s simply astonishing that the former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs would leave unanswered the critical question of how he would fund, let alone reform, veterans’ health care,” the campaign claimed in a press release on Wednesday.

The issue being raised by the Clinton campaign is that the Sanders plan would use funding for the VA to pay for others’ health care by putting it in the same pool with everyone’s coverage.

Asked about this omission, the Sanders campaign answered that veterans’ programs would remain intact.

Retired Army National Guard Brig. Gen. Dave McGinnis, speaking on behalf of the Clinton campaign, said Virginia veterans deserve a better answer.

“With approximately 780,000 veterans in Virginia alone, we deserve a guarantee that our next president will protect funding for our specialized health care needs,” McGinnis said. “We can’t take the risk of electing a candidate like Bernie Sanders who hasn’t provided answers on whether veterans would be thrown into the same coverage plan as everyone else, a change that could jeopardize the system of care veterans rely on.

“I’m supporting Hillary Clinton because she has a record of prioritizing veterans’ care and detailed proposals to protect and improve care at the VA. Secretary Clinton’s veterans’ care proposals embrace President Obama’s initiatives on brain health, brain mapping and incorporating the National Institutes of Health in this process to ensure that all of today’s veterans enjoy a better quality of life than previous generations,” McGinnis said.
