City continues search for economic-development director

Waynesboro officials are still on the hunt for someone to fill the economic-development director position that has been open for more than a year.

The city is currently in the second round of recruitment for the position, which has been vacant since former economic-development director Meghan Williamson left the post in August 2008.

The first recruitment began in January, Assistant City Manager Jim Shaw told the AFP in an e-mail. That process ended with a decision against hiring anyone from the first field of applicants, Shaw said.

The second recruitment round began in June with a search that was expanded to a number of national organizations, Shaw said.

The current process has yielded more than 40 resumes, “many quite qualified and experienced,” Shaw said, and the city is currently in the process of interviewing candidates for the position.
