WINNER: Chris Long is unanimous first-team AP All-American
And he finished 10th in the Heisman voting – becoming the fifth UVa. player to do so.
Not bad for a stud 4-3 defensive end who had to face double- and triple-teams in a base 3-4.
Long will get a big, fat, bigger-than-winning-the-lottery check with his name on it in a few months.
WINNER: Seth Greenberg has the Hokies playing solid D
Nobody – including me – gave Virginia Tech much of a chance to do anything other than lose a lot of basketball games this year.
That was before the Hokies held a couple of opponents below 40 points – that’s right, under a point a minute.
I still wonder where Tech’s points are going to come from, but if they’re not giving any up on the other side of the floor, it might not matter so much.
WINNER: Virginia Tech in the men’s soccer Final Four
Virginia is still waiting for the one for the thumb. Meanwhile, the Tech soccer team is on the verge of doing the unthinkable.
Of course, we always knew they could play football down in Blacksburg …
