Chris Graham: Ken Cuccinelli follows the script, literally

AFP

A curious email hit my inbox at 7:56 p.m. tonight. I doublechecked the time after remembering hearing the moderator for tonight’s gubernatorial debate at Virginia Tech say that there were five minutes left in the event as her segue into asking the candidates, Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe, to give their closing statements.

cuccinelli-header2Cuccinelli was first. Not long after he began to speak, I get this email.

I couldn’t quite read along, but the close to the closing statement was still ringing in my ears when I got to the end of the prepared text.

“Terry’s never told us his plans for Virginia—all he has is platitudes.  Terry, without mentioning me, I challenge you now, for the first time, to tell us one detailed plan and how you’ll pay for it.”

Did I miss the teleprompter in front of him? Did he memorize the whole thing?

Live, and apparently spontaneous, I thought it was a good line.

Now realizing that he went into the night knowing those would be his last words, I have to commend the scriptwriter.
