Chayce McDermott solid for Triple-A Norfolk in 11-1 win at Memphis

norfolk tides Baltimore Orioles prospect Chayce McDermott allowed one hit in 6.2 scoreless innings for Triple-A Norfolk in an 11-1 Tides win at Memphis on Friday.

McDermott (3-5, 3.70 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 12.8Ks/9), the #7 rated prospect in the O’s farm system, per MLB.com, struck out seven in the outing.

McDermott, who leads the International League in strikeouts, has now fanned at least seven batters in 12 of his 18 starts with the Tides this season.

Daniel Johnson homered in the ninth for the Tides, his first long ball since June 20 at Lehigh Valley. Through 70 games with the Tides, Johnson has hit 14 home runs while driving in 52 batters.

Garrett Cooper went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a sacrifice fly, marking his fifth multi-hit game of the year with Norfolk. Since joining the Tides on June 27, Cooper is batting .365 (15-for-41) with six runs, a double, four home runs and 18 RBI, the most driven in by an International League batter during that span.
