CharlottesvilleCharlottesville Director of Public Works Judith Mueller has announced her retirement.

Mueller has served as Director of Public Works for the City of Charlottesville since 1985, overseeing the divisions of Facilities Development, Facilities Maintenance, Fleet, Environmental Administration, Transportation, Public Service, and Public Utilities.

“Leaving the City of Charlottesville after thirty-one years is a big step,” said Mueller. “While I will enjoy more time with my family, I will miss coming to this place every day. I look forward to living in Charlottesville for many years and to seeing the great strides the City takes in the future.”

“We are grateful to Judy for her long service and stewardship of the Department of Public Works,” said City Manager Maurice Jones. “She has led the department through a number of significant changes and evolutions in the Public Works landscape. We wish her the very best in all of her future endeavors.”

Mueller is a Past President of the American Public Works Association (APWA), a 28,500 member association serving the needs of public works professionals in North America. Prior to her becoming Director of Public Works in Charlottesville, she worked for the City of Virginia Beach in the Departments of Public Utilities and Public Works.

She has a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration from Old Dominion University.

Mueller will remain with the City until her successor is named. The City is now accepting applications for Director of Public Works.
