UVA Baseball alum Kyle Teel was 2-for-4 with an RBI double for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs in a 3-2 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday.
Teel, a 2023 first-round pick of the Boston Red Sox, is putting up big numbers in his sophomore season in the minors, with a .301/.389/.463 slash line, eight homers, 49 RBIs and .852 OPS.
MLB.com rates Teel, 22, the #3 prospect in the Red Sox farm system, and the #24 prospect overall, with a projected MLB arrival next season.
The Sox have an established catcher in Connor Wong, who is slashing .316/.371/.449, with seven homers, 31 RBIs and .820 OPS.
Wong, 28, is still under team control through 2026.
I think we can expect Teel to get a promotion to Triple-A after the All-Star break, and assuming he shows well at that level in the second half, he’ll get a shot at making the big-league roster next spring.
