We live in a highly competitive world where there is certainly a case of more people than jobs. Finding the right candidate is becoming a more and more difficult task where the cost of a bad hire is higher than ever before. Choosing the right candidate is vital today and sifting through a pile of resumes and cover letters is still something no recruiter or HR manager looks forward to. Because the challenges around recruitment technology are being turned to in order to improve the hiring process, save costs and help in securing the very best candidate for the role.

Fake Resumes

With the demand for jobs being higher than ever before people will turn to desperate measures to get a job. Falsifying resumes is on the rise and the innovative use of a blockchain-based record is finding its way into the recruitment process. This technology is perhaps best known for its use with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, but it is also finding its use in many areas of business. The technology is being used to combat diploma fraud in the recruitment sector and many recruiters and companies are appreciating its value. It is very easy to lie about qualifications but using technology there are now ways to prove that a certificate is real or not.

Blind Recruitment

Another area where technology is helping find the right or best candidate for the job is through blind recruitment. Human beings can become biased or prejudiced about a person based on anything from age to gender to race. Blind recruitment takes a batch of resumes and turns them into merit-based documents. Removing anything that could naturally create discrimination each candidate is presented based on their ability to perform the job in question, even past employers are removed as this can be seen to either enable or disable a candidate. Blind recruitment uses technology and algorithms in the selection for the interview stage and narrows down the field of candidates to save time and money in the recruitment process.

Online Testing and Remote Interviews

Finding the ideal candidate can mean widening the search for the right person. Communication technology has made this possible and with video communication platforms such as Skype, Hangouts and WhatsApp becoming more prevalent long-distance interviews are easy. Alongside these online skills, testing is now very possible and a person can be tested on their ability to perform certain tasks online rather than just saying if they can do so. This help identifies the ideal candidate and reduces induction periods by finding people where fewer skills training is required.

Technology can most certainly help find the best candidate for a job but at the end of the day, it is a human decision whether to hire or not.
