bridgewaterBridgewater College has been ranked one of the 50 Great Small Colleges for a Bachelor’s in Psychology 2015 by Online Psychology Degree Guide.

The guide, which can be found at onlinepsychologydegree.org, provides prospective psychology students with resources they need to make good decisions about education and career choices.

Bridgewater, which ranked 47th, was selected based on criteria that included research and distance learning opportunities, study abroad opportunities, internship and scholarship opportunities, affiliated centers and institutes and student organizations and societies.

The editors of Online Psychology Degree Guide noted the strong community ties at Bridgewater College and that it offers students the “one-on-one attention they can only find in a close-knit community while simultaneously affording them the high-tech resources and undergraduate research opportunities typically found in larger university settings.”

“We are humbled and honored to learn of our inclusion in the list of 50 Great Small Colleges for a Bachelor’s in Psychology for 2015,” said Alan Eby, Bridgewater professor of psychology and chair of the department. “The judges were specific in their feedback and rationale – mentioning our strong curriculum in neuroscience, research opportunities, student organizations such as Psi Chi, and internship opportunities.”

Eby said the Bridgewater College community as a whole assisted in helping the psychology department win the award, since part of the criteria was study abroad opportunities and affiliated centers and institutes.

Additionally, he said, the broader community also deserves recognition for its support.

“The feedback mentioned several organizations by name in which our students have completed internships,” he said. “This is a true team recognition – from the department to the campus to the community.”

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,800 undergraduate students.
