Bridge maintenance next week on Interstate 64 bridge over Route 29

Chris Graham

interstate 64Next week, the Virginia Department of Transportation will perform bridge-deck patching on the Interstate 64 eastbound bridge over Route 29 (Monacan Trail) in Albemarle County. The patching will provide a smoother ride across the well-traveled bridge at mile marker 118, which is used by 24,000 vehicles daily.

The work will occur next Monday through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Motorists should expect minor delays during the work hours, when traffic will be reduced to one travel lane. Intermittent closures will also occur on the I-64 on-ramp from Route 29 southbound and the off-ramp to Route 29 northbound, but will be limited to 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. to reduce impacts to traffic. Follow posted detour routes.

Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. VDOT updates are also on Facebook and the district’s Twitter account,@VaDOTCulp.
