Update: 1 p.m. Officers have cleared this morning’s scene after Virginia State Police bomb technicians arrived and were able to gain access to the area of suspicion and discovered that the drilled holes, with wires protruding, contained no dynamite or other explosives.

Residents may resume normal activities.

Original Post: 9:44 a.m. The Waynesboro Police Department is on the scene of an incident behind the 500 block of Edwardian Lane involving possible unexploded dynamite that was located by workers in the area this morning.

Currently the area is cordoned off and Virginia State Police as well as other state hazmat resources are being requested.

The department asks that residents of Edwardian, particularly those in the 500 block, to stay indoors and avoid their back yards.  In addition police are requesting other citizens to avoid the area if possible until we are able to properly dispose of the hazard.
