Update: Wednesday, 5:19 p.m. Virginia State Police Trooper B. Coleman is investigating a two-vehicle crash in Orange County that occurred Wednesday at 10:05 a.m. on Route 20 (Constitution Highway) at Route 231 (Blue Ridge Turnpike).

A 2013 Peterbilt tractor trailer was traveling west on Rte. 231 when it failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a northbound 1994 Freightliner dump truck. The impact caused the tractor trailer to run off the roadway and collided with a store. The dump truck ran off the roadway and collided with a house.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Gabriel J. Garcia, 29, of Womelsdorf, Pa., was uninjured in the crash. Garcia was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the dump truck, Brent M. Spitzer, 54, of Gordonsville, Va., suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment. Spitzer was wearing a seatbelt.

Two people in the store were uninjured and the house was unoccupied.

The crash remains under investigation.

VSP was assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Fire and EMS, and VDOT.

Original post: Wednesday, 11:59 a.m. Route 231 (Blue Ridge Turnpike) is closed between Route 20 (Constitution Highway) and Route 655 (Jacksontown Road) in Orange County due to a tractor trailer crash.

Northbound Route 231 traffic is being detoured via Route 655 to Route 20 back to Route 231. Southbound Route 231 traffic is reversing the detour using Route 20 to Route 655.

Drivers are advised to expect an extended closure.
