ICE agent shoots, kills unarmed protestor in Minneapolis: Trump administration spins

An ICE agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday, with a Trump administration saying he did so “fearing for his life,” as video from the scene shows it was actually in cold blood.

“The presence of federal immigration enforcement agents is causing chaos in our city and making our community less safe. We are demanding that ICE leave the city and state immediately,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said.

The shooting happened just a day after the Department of Homeland Security announced that “the largest DHS operation ever is happening right now in Minnesota.”

The DHS reportedly deployed 2,000 ICE agents to Minneapolis as part of the operation.

The unnamed woman who was shot and killed was in a minivan parked in the middle of a city street apparently as part of a protest of the enforcement action.

A witness at the scene told Minnesota Public Radio that it appeared the woman “was trying to turn around, and the ICE agent was in front of her car, and he pulled out a gun and put it right in — like, his midriff was on her bumper — and he reached across the hood of the car and shot her in the face like three, four times.”

Tricia McLaughlin, the lead spokesperson for DHS, did her Orwellian best to blame the shooting on the victim.

“Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers, and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them – an act of domestic terrorism.

“An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots.

“He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.

“The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. Thankfully, the ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries.”

The problem for McLaughlin, DHS, ICE, and the specific ICE agent involved is this video:

You can see for yourself. The vehicle was stopped in the middle of the street, surrounded by ICE agents.

An ICE agent walked up to her vehicle, ordered her out of the vehicle, and reached into her vehicle to try to detain her.

At this point, she attempted to drive off.

A second officer, standing off to the side, not in the lane of her travel, shot her multiple times at near-point-blank range.

It’s hard to look at this video and see anyone “fearing for his life.”

“They are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly, that is bullshit,” Frey said at a news conference, adding a little later:

“There’s little that I can say that will make this situation better, but I do have a message for our community, for our city, and I have a message for ICE: to ICE, get the fuck out of Minneapolis.”

This is murder.
