Bike Virginia arrives in the Shenandoah Valley

bike virginiaBike Virginia 2016 will visit the communities of Woodstock and Harrisonburg June 24-29. With over 1,600 participants and volunteers there will be six days of biking and relaxation in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.

The 2016 Bike Virginia Tour offers 6 routes totaling 300 miles. Riders can pick from any one of the loops offered each day of the event. The loop sizes and bike route vary in distances ranging from 20-100 miles. That means you can ride the way you want to ride.

“This is the third time Harrisonburg has worked with Bike Virginia,” says Brenda Black, Director of Tourism.  “In 2014, we worked regionally with Shenandoah County Tourism to recruit the event and Rockingham County Tourism to secure the location just outside the City at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds for 2016. Bike Virginia will provide various excursions with shuttles to Downtown Harrisonburg on Monday June 27th and Tuesday June 28th.”

Our region has been a popular destination over the years drawing 2,172 cyclists in 2004 and 2,100 in 2010. The economic impact of Bike Virginia per rider is estimated at $105.00 per day without lodging. The economic impact of 1,600 cyclists over 6 days is estimated at $168,000 per day and over a million within our region.
