Bridgewater’s winning streak was stopped at seven straight Sunday when Mount Union swept a pair of games from the Eagles by indetical 4-3 scores.
In the opener, The Purple Raiders nicked BC starter Joseph Lucas for two runs in the bottom of the first.
The Eagles talled an unearned run in the second inning, but Mount Union added two in the fifth on a bases loaded walk and an infield error to lead, 4-1.
Mount Union starter Beau Smith was working on a no-hitter until the Eagles picked up two hits in the sxith – their only two hits of the game. Darren Yoder led off with a single and Devon Snow followed with a double. A pair of groundouts produced runs, but the Eagles still trailed 4-3 heading to the final inning.
Bridgewater went down in order in the seventh as the Purple Raiders held on for the 4-3 win.
Mount Union touched BC starter Robert Gallet for a run in the third to take the lead in Game 2. With two outs the Purple Raiders strung together three straight hits, the third a run-scoring single by Conor Mathis, to lead 1-0.
The Eagles tied the score in the fourth when Jonathan Mason walked and moved to second on a groundout. Mason scored on a single by Derrik Waling to tie the score at 1-1.
Mathis put the Raiders ahead with another RBI hit in the fifth, but the Eagles evened the score with a run in the sixth. Andrew Hacker singled and pinch-runner Nick Fulk moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Walling singled Fulk to third and Ryan Smith plated the run with a sacrifice tie to tie the score at 2-2.
Mount Union scored two in the top of the seventh on a run-scoring triple by Lee Grosscup and an RBI-single by Mathis to take a 4-2 lead.
The Eagles had their chance in their final at-bat as three walks loaded the bases with one out. One run scored on a Zach Hynes groundout, but Walling was retired on a fly ball as the Purple Raiders escaped with the doubleheader sweep.
Bridgewater is back in action Monday morning when the Eagles meet No. 21 Thomas More for a nine-inning single game.
