A three-run homer by Jonathan Schoop keyed a six-run Baltimore fourth, and the Orioles rolled to a 9-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.
The O’s roughed up Detroit starter Justin Verlander (0-3, 6.62 ERA) for seven runs on eight hits in three and two-thirds innings. Verlander struck out four and walked one, but also gave up two home runs, including a solo shot to Adam Jones in the first.
Miguel Gonzalez (8-6, 4.21 ERA) got the win for the Orioles (46-45), giving up two runs on six hits in five innings of work, striking out four and walking two.
Jones was 3-for-5 at the plate to key Baltimore’s 14-hit attack.
The win moves to Orioles into second place in the American League East, four games behind the division-leading New York Yankees.
