Wade Miley was hit hard in his first start as a Baltimore Oriole in a 5-3 loss to Texas on Thursday.
Miley (7-9, 5.08 ERA, 1.36 WHIP), acquired in a trade-deadline deal from Seattle, gave up four runs on eight hits in five innings, striking out five.
The O’s (61-46) trailed 4-0 in the fifth when Mark Trumbo (.267/.319/.539, 31 HR, 77 RBI) and Pedro Alvarez (.259/.315/.517, 16 HR, 36 RBI) hit back-to-back solo homers to cut the deficit in half.
Hyun-Soo Kim (.335/.418/.460, 4 HR, 12 RBI) added a solo shot in the sixth, but two Orioles rallies were snuffed out by double plays in the late innings.
A.J. Griffin (5-1, 4.05 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) got the win for Texas (63-46), giving up three runs on five hits in five and two-thirds innings, striking out six.
