Baltimore breaks late tie, beats Angels, 3-2

baltimore oriolesAn eighth-inning Jonathan Schoop RBI single broke a 2-2 tie, and Zach Briton closed out a 3-2 Baltimore win over the L.A. Angels on Saturday at Camden Yards.

Brad Brach (6-1, 0.93 ERA, 0.81 WHIP) got the win in relief for the Orioles (50-36), who lead second-place Boston (48-38) by two games in the American League East.

Yovani Gallardo (3-1, 5.82 ERA, 1.68 WHIP) was effective in five innings as the starter, giving up two runs on six hits, striking out two and walking four.

This one was won in the Buck Showalter way, though, with the bullpen putting in four shutout innings, allowing just three baserunners.

Mark Trumbo (.287/.337/.583, 28 HR, 68 RBI) hit a solo home run in the second.

Schoop (.304/.339/.512, 14 HR, 52 RBI) was 2-for-4 at the plate with the RBI single and a run scored.
