The AWASAW Regional Artisans and Cultural Center project has been tapped for a $1 million grant from the Community Development Block Grant-Recovery program, Gov. Tim Kaine announced today.
The $22.5 million project is being funded largely from private funding sources – to the tune of $20 million. The million-dollar CDBG-R grant is being matched by another $1.5 million in local and state monies.
The announcement was made with others totaling $5 million in CDBG-R grants statewide.
“Even in a tough economic climate, Virginia is continually working to provide employment opportunities for all our citizens. These projects will enhance our communities by supporting their revitalization efforts, by aiding small businesses, and by providing job opportunities for individuals with disabilities.” Kaine said.
The six projects funded in part by today’s grants will add 670 jobs statewide, including 48 at AWASAW in Staunton. An additional 272 construction-related positions will be created and maintained during the construction phase of the AWASAW project.
