Augusta Health honors employees for service

Chris Graham

Augusta Health celebrated the milestone anniversaries of 231 employees at a Sept. 15 dinner at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel in Staunton.

Collectively, the employees recognized have served the community for 3955 years.

The large group photo includes those with 40, 45 and 50 years of service with Augusta Health CEO Mary Mannix.  They are (left to right):  Mary Ogden, Nancy Heizer, Betty Puffenbarger, Nancy Hinton, Lois Hughes, Mary Mannix, Judy Shifflett, Janice Marks, Sandy Trujillo, and Martha Kennedy.

The duo photo is Mary Mannix (left) with Betty Puffenbarger, recognized for her 50 years of service to Augusta Health and our community. Puffenbarger is a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School and Blue Ridge Community College, and began her employment with King’s Daughters Hospital on June 26, 1966 when gas was 32¢ per gallon, the Beatles and the Monkees were the hot groups and Star Trek and How the Grinch Stole Christmas were first seen on TV.

Puffenbarger started as a part-time clerk, then become full-time, and currently works in the Business Office.  She is known for her quiet disposition and her willingness to assist others.  Betty enjoys doing things for and with family and friends, going to and having yard sales, reading, taking a walk, working in her yard and flowers, day trips and mini vacations—all the simple blessings of life.
