The Augusta County community raised $80,000 to help support the care, support and research programs of the Alzheimer’s Association.
The 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Greater Augusta registered 401 participants on 72 teams. The walk took place at Mary Baldwin University’s Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences in Fishersville in October.
“The funds raised will help fuel disease research while also providing critical care and support to individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementia,” said Jeanne Snyder, community executive.
In Virginia, there are more than 165,000 people living with the disease.
Members of Calvary United Methodist Church in Stuarts Draft raised more than $6,000 for the walk.
“I am a nurse educator, and I value bringing awareness to an important health-related cause like how to cope with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and more importantly- to help our community as a whole take strides to finding a cure,” said Wendie Colvin, a parish nurse for the church and the Calvary 2179 team captain.
More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 12 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
